I’m thrilled to welcome Katherine from Bibliomaniac to the blog to talk about her 3 books today.
Katherine started her blog, Bibliomaniacuk, in 2016, and this is where she shares her book reviews, guest posts, author interviews and blog tour posts. She runs book events in Harpenden, where she lives. Events are held in a pub and authors come along and chat about their books; people have a chance to buy the books, enjoy a drink, enter a raffle and mingle with the authors. She also works for No Exit Press, an Independent Publisher of Crime Fiction as a Publicity Assistant.
1. What’s the first book you remember reading?
It was from the library and called ‘Elizabeth’. I picked it because that was my favourite girl’s name – when I made up stories it was always the name I gave the main character! I was about 4 or 5 years old and it was a small, square book, held together with sticky tape. I borrowed it again and again! Otherwise it would have to be an Enid Blyton book, probably The Caravan Family or a Famous Five – that’s when I discovered what it meant to ‘lose yourself in a book’ and how stories offered you friendship, adventure and fun for hours and hours on end!
2. What book will always stay with you and why?
This is such a tough question. There are so many books that have touched me, or are memorable for so many different reasons. And so many books that I have loved. But as the question says which book will ‘always’ stay with you then I’m going to choose “Of Mice And Men’ because it made a huge impact on me when I first read it at school, and then again when the roles were reversed and I was an English Teacher introducing it to students. It’s a book that never fails to touch readers and I always seem to still see something new in it even though it is such a short and compact novel.
3. One book you are looking forward to reading?
Again, so many! There are lots of new books coming out in 2018 from fab authors like Clare Mackintosh, Amanda Jennings and Deborah O’Connor – and I have a huge pile of paperbacks by my bed which I’m also desperate to read! I guess I’m always looking forward to my next book on my ‘schedule’ which at the moment is “An Act of Silence” by Colette Macbeth so that is the book I will choose!

Author events in pubs – now that’s the way to go. Just wouldn’t work here unfortunately.

I always enjoy learning about books that have really influenced people. Thanks very much for sharing, both. And I agree: Of Mice and Men is a memorable book.
