Well, what else was I going to write about for the letter C?!
For those blog readers who know all about the crime book club and engage with it, you may want to look away now.
For any new readers who are passing through as part of the A to Z challenge, here’s what the crime book club is all about;
Have you ever been to, or are you a member of a book club? They are great aren’t they? You get to meet and chat to like-minded people who love books and for that one day in the month, you’ve all read the same book. You’re all passionate and enthusiastic about books. You wouldn’t be there if you weren’t.
For some people, there just isn’t a book club near to them, so they don’t have the opportunity.
This got me to thinking – as someone who uses the internet; social networks and the suchlike – why couldn’t we hold a book club online? And being a crime fiction fan, I thought I’d narrow it down so that it catered for that specific group. I looked into how this could work and quickly found out that we could meet on Google+ Hangouts and chat live.
So, back in August last year I launched the so titled book club. We meet up on Google+ on the third Wednesday of the month at 8 p.m GMT, and chat about the book we’ve just read and we always feel great after each meeting because it’s such fun. And what we’ve found as we’ve progressed is that this has been better than we imagined. Because it’s online, it has no geographical boundaries. We have had members join us from the US, Germany, France and Australia as well as the UK where I’m based.
If you’re a fan of crime fiction and fancy joining a book club where you can chat from the comfort of your own home, then check this out. Details on how it works can be found in the tab above, or the quick link is Here. The YouTube page where the video’d meetings are stored is Here and you can sign up to the newsletter Here.
This month we are reading The Sweetness at the Bottom of the Pie by Alan Bradley as we are doing a cosy crime month.
Flavia de Luce 11 is an aspiring chemist with a passion for poison. In the summer of 1950, inexplicable events strike Buckshaw, her decaying mansion home. A dead bird is on the doorstep, a postage stamp on its beak. Hours later, Flavia finds a man dying in the cucumber patch. His last words must save her father imprisoned for his murder.
We’re meeting at 8 p.m. GMT on Wednesday 16th April.
We’d love to see you one month. Come join the crime fiction fun!

That’s great you’ve had such a good response. Meeting through Google+ – smart idea.
Rebecca Bradley says
Thanks Alex. I’m surprised how well it has been going so far 🙂
Margot Kinberg says
What an excellent choice for C, Rebecca! And what a great club! Folks, do come and join us.
Rebecca Bradley says
Thanks Margot. We really do enjoy it don’t we 🙂

Rebecca, I’ve never been part of any book club though I also admit to not having heard of any in my city. I know they must be there but I just don’t know where. The only “book club” I’m a part of is book blogs such as yours. I suppose, book blogs constitute a book club.
Rebecca Bradley says
They do. You can always read along with our books of the month as well and leave your thoughts in the comments if you don’f fancy logging into the live chat 🙂
Elizabeth Hein says
I am going to make it one these months. Every month, I look at the book and never make it to the meeting.
Rebecca Bradley says
We look forward to seeing you whenever you make it 🙂
Julie Flanders says
You should be proud of yourself for getting this up and running – so great that you’ve had such a positive response. Congrats!
Rebecca Bradley says
Thanks Julie. It’s been great fun and hasn’t felt like work getting it running at all 🙂

Two of my favorite things…books and crime. 🙂
I’m going to check it out.
Rebecca Bradley says
Brilliant, we’d love to see you if it’s something you decide you like 🙂
Kristin Smith says
Cool that you started your own online book club! Now if that isn’t “gumption”, I don’t know what is! Great reading your A to Z post! 🙂
Rebecca Bradley says
Thanks Kristin. It’s great fun and didn’t feel like gumption at all. I suppose doing what we love really helps 🙂
Thanks for dropping by!
Rhonda Parrish says
I’ve never belonged to a book club, but now you’ve got me thinking… Hmmm…
Rebecca Bradley says
You’d be more than welcome. We’d love to see you! 🙂

It’s in my diary! I might be a bit late (and sweaty) though because I have race training before that.

Oh how fun! The internet is a really wonderful thing sometimes. I run an e-book club for erotica/kink reads lol Then have my more traditional bookclub that meets in person. Always fun to get to chat with other book lovers 🙂
Happy A to Z-ing!
