The Recently Read posts are not typical book reviews. As a writer, I do not believe I should be reviewing the hard work of other writers. These posts are simply books I have recently read and enjoyed and will share with you. They will not always be crime books as I am trying to widen my reading selection. I hope you enjoy some of these with me.
Stalkers by Paul Finch.
“All he had to do was name the woman he wanted. It was that easy. They would do all the hard work.”
Detective Sergeant Mark ‘Heck’ Heckenberg is investigating the disappearance of 38 different women. Each one was happy and successful until they vanished without a trace.
Desperate to find her missing sister, Lauren Wraxford seeks out Heck’s help. Together they enter a seedy underworld of gangsters and organised crime.
But when they hear rumours about the so-called ‘Nice Guys Club’ they hit a brick wall. They’re the gang that no one will talk about. Because the Nice Guys can arrange anything you want. Provided you pay the price…
My Thoughts;
The first I’ve read of the Mark ‘Heck’ Heckenberg series. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and will read the second book Sacrifice.
After Heck is put on enforced “leave” after becoming obsessed with connecting cases that no one else can see connections to, he goes off on his own to continue the investigation, but not before meeting the sister of a victim, who purposefully searched him out. Though he tries his best to stop her being involved in an “off-the-books” police investigation, she persists and they find themselves in a sinister world where people are a lot more organised and dangerous than they were prepared for and they both have to up their own game if they want to find out the truth and come out of this alive.
Leave your believability at the door and enjoy the well written, engaging and thrilling ride. It’s Definitely not a police procedural!

I’m writing one at the moment where I have to learn a bit about police procedure – it’s not easy but you can always have that ‘rebel cop’ who never goes by the book 😉
Rebecca Bradley says
Exactly, that way you don’t even need to know the procedure, you can just throw it out the window! 🙂

Leave brain at the door – I can do that!
Rebecca Bradley says
Don’t you just love books where that’s required! 😉
Margot Kinberg says
Sometimes those ‘leave your disbelief by the door’ novels can be really successful and engaging. Glad you enjoyed this one, Rebecca.

Isn’t that why we read fiction Margot? To get away from reality. I am one of those people who can leave my disbelief at the door if it is done fully. If it is done half and half – some bits are attempted to look like it could really happen and then it’s not, then I’m thrown, but a good old, lets just get on with it novel, I can do 🙂

This sounds great. I like police procedurals (I’ve read everything by LJ Sellers), but the level of detail distracts sometimes from the plot. It becomes it’s own plot. I’m looking forward to reading this.
