I’ve done a couple of posts on searching, Here and Here and Here. But one of the subjects I don’t know much about is the underwater search units. I haven’t been involved in any jobs that have required them. But, they are a staple of crime fiction so I thought I would see what I could find to help you with this interesting subject. Below are a few videos.
In the first one, I was interested to hear that they dive in waters when they don’t have work on, just to get the lie of the “land” so to speak, for when or if a job does come in, in that stretch of water. So they know what to expect.
The fourth one where Lorna is getting out of the water I found really interesting because of all the snippets of detail you could pull from the video, for a book.
I hope you enjoy these. None of them are particularly long.

Interesting they scope it out before they have to. Rather smart actually.

Oh, this is really interesting, Rebecca! I don’t know a whole lot about underwater search teams, either, or about how they do what they do. But it all sounds fascinating. And they have a lot to do besides simply looking. They have to know their areas, they have to keep in shame, etc.. Quite the job!

The SARbot came down to the scout centre a couple of years back, to test there equipment and show it off.
I can’t find them now, though but yeah

As an ex-Customs diver myself, I found this fascinating. Much more interesting than scoping ships hulls to see what might be attached magnetically, or in other ways.
