Today I’m pleased to welcome Jan Harvey to the blog to talk about her 3 books.
Jan is an author and artist living in the Oxfordshire Cotswolds. After thirty years working as an editor and designer of business magazines, Jan became a full-time writer in 2011. Her first novel, The Seven Letters, was published in February 2017.
Jan is working on her second novel due for publication in Autumn 2018.
When Jan is not writing or creating art she enjoys reading, watching old black and white movies and dog walking.
- What’s the first book you remember reading?
Mrs. Davies, my favourite junior schoolteacher, gave me The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe to read at eight. I couldn’t believe how compelling it was. The imagery, characters and fantastical adventure were all so perfect. I went on to read the whole ‘box set’ and have never, I think, read anything that transported me so completely into another time and place.
- What book will always stay with you and why?
‘The History of Love’ by Nicole Krauss. I read it three times in the same year. It was made up of layer upon layer of exquisite storytelling. Nicole turns English on its head and the format of the book is intriguing. She taught me that there is no format as long as you have consistency. I adored the book for its characters. It’s a slow burn, but I constantly think of the main protagonist Leo Gursky in my everyday life. That’s the sign of a powerful read.
- One book you are looking forward to reading?
My husband just bought me the entire box set of Jane Austen novels and I am very much looking forward to working my way through them. They have beautiful covers which will greatly enhance my enjoyment!

Nice choices of book. I think the Narnia books drew millions of young people to reading. Thanks, both, for sharing this.
