Today I have a TED talk by Manoush Zomorodi for you. It’s a fascinating talk. About how boredom can lead to deep thinking and brilliant creative ideas, how the world we live in stops it and what she found when she tried to do something about it. I loved how at the end she said the world needs creative thinkers to survive and move forwards.
Now, I’m not suggesting you get as drastic as some on the video and delete those apps, but wasn’t it interesting that it’s boredom that is the creative part of our day. I know I can sort out plot holes when I’m showering because I have nothing to really do but think. (I should spend more time in the shower!)
Where are you when you feel your mind ticking over at its best? And do you pick up your phone far too much? (Go on, you can admit it here. I won’t tell anyone…)
Rebecca, I have visited TED Talks a few times and my impression is that the speakers don’t get to the point quickly enough. Once or twice, I even lost interest. I understand this is a narrow way of looking at it..
I love TED talks Prashant, but I understand we all look at things in a subjective way and we can’t all like and enjoy the same things. I like the wide variety of subjects they cover as well. Yours isn’t a narrow viewpoint, it’s valid to you.
This is really interesting, Rebecca. Agatha Christie once said (or wrote) that the best time to plan a story is when you’re doing the dishes. Perhaps she had a point…
I think she did, Margot. I imagine we all have our place where we think. As I say, mine is in the shower! 🙂
No wonder so many good ideas come to me while mowing the lawn…
Exactly! So, now you know, when you’re stuck you should get yourself out there in the garden 🙂
That seals it! I’ll never have a brilliant idea because I’m never bored.
With the possible exception of ironing…
I should get bored more!
