Today, I have a bite-sized interview, but it’s not quite so bite-sized. The video is slightly over 22 minutes long, but it’s worth watching if you’re interested in BritCrime in any way. If you attended the hectic 3-day online festival in July or heard the buzz around it and wondered what you missed or are thinking about joining in with what is planned next. You’ll find all the inside information right here as I chat to the BritCrime founder Helen Smith.
Did you attend in July? Will you be attending the Christmas events? And do you think there is a place for online festivals?
Thanks for sharing this, Rebecca! BritCrime is such a great example of how today’s technology can be harnessed to gather readers and writers together.
That was a really great interview – especially because you could see how enthusiastic you and Helen were Rebecca! Ahead of the December event I have made it a priority to read more of the BritCrime authors participating. It was such a genuine kind effort that you all put in so I have made BritCrime authors my reading priority ahead of many books on my TBR!
Two things surprised me:
1. I thought authors wouldn’t be very keen on a weekend join up. You all have your an personal lives and had thought these would come first. But there was huge enthusiasm from all the authors to chat in the bar after and keep checking in.
2. I also got to know many of the crime reading community of bloggers and met so many new people!
I was just massively appreciative and thankful to everyone involved. This really did show that crime authors have the most openness to new ideas like this for connecting them to readers and also showed how wonderful sports you all were.
A big thank you to Helen for building the momentum for BritCrime and authors taking it to heart!
Best wishes, Rachel Hall (@hallrachel)
