Because I’ve had a busy weekend, I thought I would share a YouTube video with you today and today’s video is Margaret Atwood sharing her creative process.
I found it really interesting. She doesn’t struggle with what she’s going to write, but which of the far-fetched stories she’s going to tackle that day!
What’s your writing process like? Does it sound similar to this great writer?
mihrank says
indeed very creative process and detailed in your theme of work!
Rebecca Bradley says
Thank you. She’s great isn’t she!
Alex J. Cavanaugh says
That’s proof I shouldn’t continue writing – I often have no idea when it comes to what I will write next.
Rebecca Bradley says
I think we’re all different Alex. Though I’m a bit like that and have several ideas I’m desperate to start. Do you carry a note book? I bet you have the ideas but end up forgetting them.

Am I the only one who find’s Atwoods voice incredibly relaxing. I think she could put up a video reading out the phone book and I’d be fascinated for hours. 🙂 Thanks for putting up the clip.
Rebecca Bradley says
No you’re not, she sounds wonderful doesn’t she!
Margot Kinberg says
Rebecca – What a great video – thanks. It’s always nice to know how other writers go about it. I admire how many different ideas she has.
Rebecca Bradley says
I love hearing how other writers work Margot, it helps me feel I’m not so odd! 🙂
Jacqui Murray says
I continue to be surprised how many accomplished writers start with handwritten drafts. Doesn’t anyone have arthritis!?
How was your conference?
Rebecca Bradley says
I know, she’s not the first person I’ve heard say that recently, about the handwritten draft. Anthony Horowitz also does the same. It would absolutely kill my hands!
Carol Balawyder says
“If you’re not finding this happening spontaneously then you shouldn’t be doing this activity.”
I really liked this by Atwood. I can identify with this for if there isn’t any passion or drive then the writing (at least mine) is flat.
This was a great video. Thanks, Rebecca for posting it. 🙂
Rebecca Bradley says
You’re welcome. I’m glad you enjoyed it. She is quite wonderful isn’t she? I know what you mean about needing passion. It’s hard to put emotion in there if you don’t feel it.
