I couldn’t multi-task well before social media.
Not experienced the phantom phone vibration. Actually, it’s gone off and I’ve not even noticed many times.
Rebecca Bradley says
I have had phantom phone but also the opposite like you, not noticing it going off because I only have it on vibrate rather than having any sound bellowing out at odd times!

Rebecca – it does make you stop and think as you consider the profound effect social media has on the way we think. It does on the way we communicate too. Language has been impacted by social media and since that’s an important form of communication, social media has impacted the way we interact.
Rebecca Bradley says
Social media has become a massive part of our lives. You just have to look at the tv and I’m not just talking about fun things like XFactor giving out hashtags across the screen, but serious debating shows and news programmes also want viewers to interact via social media so prompt with hashtags. It’s a world now being built on it.

This is really interesting and also a little scary.
Jacqui Murray says
Well that’s frightening. One item surprised me: We are constantly warned NOT to talk about ourselves too much in blog posts, etc., because readers get bored. Insights are great, but post after post, FB after FB about ourselves is supposed to be bad for collecting followers. Not quite sure how to blend that in…

I think it’s a fine line and some people are better at it than others. It’s like Twitter, some people just don’t get that it’s “social” and it’s all me, me, me. Balance. Easier said than done in a hectic world.
Carol Balawyder says
This was really interesting. I could relate what was said about social media gives instant gratification and requires little effort. I’ll have to keep that in mind when I’m spending time on social media rather than on my writing! π
Rebecca Bradley says
Good point. It’s a fine balance being social and actually writing! Both are needed and both enjoyed!

A great little video, Rebecca. I experienced ‘phantom phone vibrations’ for the first time about two weeks ago. It’s interesting, but also a little scary! π

I laughed when they said that most people can’t control themselves when it comes to how much time they spend on social media. Mea culpa. Also, I’ve had my suspicions about the efficiency of multi tasking…now confirmed.
