During January’s crime book club meeting we decided that as St Patrick’s day was in March we would read Irish crime fiction for March’s meeting. So on that basis, the choices to vote on are;
The Rage by Gene Kerrigan
Vincent Naylor, just released from jail, resumes doing what he does best, planning for an armored car robbery. Bob Tidey, an honest policeman, discouraged by his colleagues making deals with criminals and about to commit perjury, is investigating the murder of a crooked banker. A call from an old acquaintance will change his course of investigation. Maura Coady, a retired nun living on regrets and bad memories, sees something that she can’t ignore and decides to tell someone. She makes a phone call that sets in motion a violent fate.
Borderlands by Brian McGilloway
The corpse of local teenager Angela Cashell is found on the Tyrone- Donegal border, between the North and South of Ireland, in an area known as the borderlands. Garda Inspector Benedict Devlin heads the investigation: the only clues are a gold ring placed on the girl’s finger and an old photograph, left where she died.
Then another teenager is murdered, and things become further complicated when Devlin unearths a link between the recent killings and the disappearance of a prostitute twenty-five years earlier – a case in which he believes one of his own colleagues is implicated.
As a thickening snow storm blurs the border between North and South, Devlin finds the distinction between right and wrong, vengeance and justice, and even police-officer and criminal becoming equally unclear.
A dazzling and lyrical debut crime novel, “Borderlands” marks the beginning of a compelling new series featuring Inspector Benedict Devlin.
The Dolls House by Louise Phillips
People say that the truth can set you free. But what if the truth is not something you want to hear?
Thirty-five years ago Adrian Hamilton drowned. At the time his death was reported as a tragic accident but the exact circumstances remained a mystery.
Now his daughter Clodagh, trying to come to terms with her past, visits a hypnotherapist who unleashes disturbing childhood memories of her father’s death. And as Clodagh delves deeper into her subconscious, memories of another tragedy come to light – the death of her baby sister.
Meanwhile criminal psychologist Dr Kate Pearson is called in to help in the investigation of a murder after a body is found in a Dublin canal. When Kate digs beneath the surface of the killing, she discovers a sinister connection to the Hamilton family.
What terrible events took place in the Hamilton house all those years ago? And what connects them to the recent murder?
Time is running out for Clodagh and Kate.
And the killer has already chosen his next victim . . .

Not sure if I can do the Feb meeting, but I would vote for The Rage for March, which I do hope to attend.

All of them sound intriguing. I’m writing a literary novel involving crime, so some of these would be good to have on my reading list.
Thanks for dropping by to comment on my blog. I’m thinking of creating a small community of fellow bloggers, so we can all support each others’ work through a group/ or events. Interested in joining the discussion?

I’m definitely interested. What would be involved? Would it be easier to give you my email address?

Rebecca – My vote is for The Rage. I’m sorry to say that I’ve been called in to a meeting at work that will conflict with February’s book club meeting, so I won’t be able to make it next week. But I will be there in March!
Rebecca Bradley says
Oh no Margot! And look what I’ve managed to arrange. Our biggest leap yet in the book club world. You’ll definitely be missed.
Vote for The Rage noted.

I know, Rebecca! I couldn’t be more delighted about what you’ve arranged – it’s absolutely wonderful. I truly wish I could be there. Well, that’s life and earning a living for you…
