November’s crime book club meeting is on Wednesday at 8 p.m. GMT. As usual, all you need to do is make sure I have added you to the book club circle on Google+ and be logged in on time. You will then see an invite appear to join the club Hangout, where we will discuss, Helen Fitzgerald’s, The Cry.
For December’s meeting, we are having a Christmas themed month. There have been some book nominations and here are your choices. Either leave a comment below, on the Facebook page, on Twitter with the hashtag #crimebookclub or let me know at the meeting on Wednesday.
I’m really looking forward to our fourth meeting and hope to see you there!
Here are December’s choices:
The Dead of Winter by Peter Kirby
Inspector Luc Vanier is drinking his way through Christmas Eve when he is called out to investigate the murder of five homeless people. His investigation takes him into the backrooms of the Catholic Church, the boardrooms of Montreal’s business elite and the soup kitchens and back alleys of street life in winter.
The Act of Roger Murgatroyd by Gilbert Adair
Boxing Day circa 1935. A snowed-in manor on the very edge of Dartmoor. A Christmas house-party. And overhead, in the attic, the dead body of Raymond Gentry, gossip columnist and blackmailer, shot through the heart. But the attic door is locked from the inside, its sole window is traversed by thick iron bars and, naturally, there is no sign of a murderer or a murder weapon. Fortunately (though, for the murderer, unfortunately), one of the guests is the formidable Evadne Mount, the bestselling author of countless classic whodunits. In fact, were she not its presiding sleuth, THE ACT OF ROGER MURGATROYD is exactly the type of whodunit she herself might have written.
The Snow White Christmas Cookie by David Handler
The newest adventure featuring the mismatched romantic crime-fighting duo of New York City film critic Mitch Berger and Connecticut State Resident Trooper Desiree Mitry presents Des with her first taste of Christmas in the historic New England village of Dorset.
And what a taste it is. Three blizzards have blanketed the village in forty inches of snow. Bryce Peck, Mitch’s blue-blooded neighbor out on Big Sister Island, has just been found dead of a drug overdose. Young Kylie Champlain has slammed her car head-on into an office building after she’s caught trying to shoplift a pair of Ugg boots. And a grinch has taken to stealing the mail from Hank Merrill’s postal route, which happens to be the main route through the historic district.
Stealing the U.S. mail is a serious federal crime, but Des soon discovers that she’s onto something much bigger: a black-market prescription drug gang with ties to organized crime. And now a fourth blizzard is on its way. And so is another murder. And, somehow, the man in her life has managed to land himself smack dab in the middle of the whole mess. Not to mention that he’s in way over his head with Josie Cantro, the beautiful and treacherous life-coach who just may be responsible for it all. If Des doesn’t act fast, this will truly be a Christmas to remember—but for all of the wrong reasons.

Well I want to read them all but I have to vote for The Dead of Winter because it is set in Canada.

I’m finding so many great books I want to read with this club. There just aren’t enough hours in the day! Looking forward to Wednesday 🙂
KK Ghost Writer says
Ooh…a crime book club… Love it!
First question: how did I miss out on this little gem?
Second question: how do I join?
– KimK 🙂
Rebecca Bradley says
Hi Kim. The book club has held three meetings so far and we have members in the UK, the US, and Australia joining in. It really has been great. You can find details of how to join in, here; https://www.rebeccabradleycrime.com/crime-book-club/ It would be great to see you! 🙂
KK Ghost Writer says
I will check it out Rebecca 🙂
Cynthia Reed says
What a great concept, Rebecca! Wrong time for me (four o’clock in the morning in Malaysia) or I’d come along just to force me to do more reading! Very impressed!
Rebecca Bradley says
Thank you Cynthia! It’s a shame about the time difference, I’d have loved to have had you join us. We have a member from Australia join us and her start time has been 5am, but there’s only so far back into the night you can go for a book club! 🙂
Murees Dupé says
Those are definitely great choices that I will have to check out. Great idea for an online book club. You are just brilliant.
Rebecca Bradley says
Thank you Murees. The book club seems to be going well and I think it will slowly grow as people learn about it as well. It’s fun and the member make it what it is 🙂
Margot Kinberg says
Rebecca – So looking forward to our meeting on Wednesday! I vote for …Roger Murgatroyd, but any of those yummy choices would be fine.
Rebecca Bradley says
I’m also looking forward to Wednesday Margot! Our fourth meeting 🙂
FictionFan says
Since i don’t participate i’m not voting…but i love, love, LOVE, the title ‘The Act of Roger Murgatroyd’ – so clever! All the books look fun though…
Rebecca Bradley says
It’s a great title isn’t it. You can always join in with the voting and reading and just leave a comment on the blog with your thoughts if you wanted to any month. You don’t have to join the online meeting. I know joining a live YouTube chat can be pretty offputting! 🙂
FictionFan says
Thanks, Rebecca, I may do that. I find the whole battling with technology business too off-putting but I always enjoy listening to the discussion. 🙂
