This week, I’m bringing to the blog, a little over a 9 minute clip from Random House for your viewing. It’s interesting to see what happens when your book is sucked into a big house like that. You may be surprised. I hope you enjoy it.

What are your thoughts after viewing that?

Fascinating inside view. Thanks, Rebecca. I’m to be published by Random House, Germany, in 2014, but I’m not sure what involvement I’ll have with the publishers, with The Evil Beneath being in translation, there. I’ve not met with RH and only been asked to fill out an Author’s Questionnaire so far (no involvement with the book cover yet, if they’ve got that far). I’d advise all writers who are close to being published to have lots of detail about their book ready. RH asked for ‘inspiration for the novel’, the story ‘in one sentense’ and even my ‘philospohy of life’! 3 pages of questions – and they wanted it really quickly too! It’s worth being prepared.

Very interesting. Since I’ve been reviewing via NetGalley, I have discovered that well over half of all the books I read come from Random House. I have to say that I do find their quality to be very high – the books, of course, but the editing, proof-reading and general packaging of the book too.

Writing IS all about rewriting. Love it!

That’s a lot of people who work on each book.

This is a pretty awesome insight. Being unpublished, there is a lot of the publishing world that feels very confusing – and it’s cool so see that it’s just another business that people are drawn to because they love books, just like writers are drawn to writing because they love books. It’s always nice to humanize the industry, when sometimes it’s easy to imagine it as a large beast we have to conquer to have any hope of achieving our goals. Thanks so much for sharing.
