Rebecca, I’ll check this video once I’m back home. Spiritual-philosophical books have changed my life for the better. There are a handful of books that I turn to in times of stress. I keep them handy. I strongly recommend the books of the late Eknath Easwaran, a renowned spiritual guide and teacher from India who, many years ago, established the Blue Mountain Centre of Meditation & Nilgiri Press in California. I can’t think of any fiction that did.

It’s got to be The Lion, the With and the Wardrobe, Rebecca. I was six, and it introduced me to big stories, series fiction and leaps of the imagination all in one slim volume. I still have my 3s 6d (18p in new money) copy. Our teacher, Miss Jones, read it to us in daily episodes. It’s probably one of the main reasons I’m a writer.

That book he is talking about is free on Amazon Kindle. That was an amazing little video. I’ll have to have a think about your question, as books ever since I can remember have been in a biggie in my life, and it’s going to take a wee while to truly give an honest answer, but I’d like to give one as it’s a great question. x

Amazing video, Rebecca. Thanks so much for the post. Made my morning! I downloaded it for free to savour and enjoy later. I’m with Dave, The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe is part of the reason why I write. Some books leave such a mark on you that they change you for life. To be able to write with that kind of an impact is a great gift.

Rebecca – Powerful video! Thanks. I’d have to say for me, the books was Agatha Christie’s Mrs. McGinty’s Dead. It was my first adult mystery, and the first book that really made me think see myself as a writer.

He got the book in prison – that’s powerful.
If I’m going to be honest about which book changed my life, I’d have to say the Bible.

Ugh! Typed a long comment and then had an error message! Jilly Cooper’s early books (Harriet, Prudence, Bella, etc) changed my life and gave me the vision of becoming a writer some day. I read them aged 10 or 11 I think and fell in love with the style, the worlds she portrayed (quite different to mine) and – yes – with Jilly herself! It’s a crush that endures to this day! Thanks for sharing the video – I didn’t know RT had been in jail. I loved him as Bobby Grant in Brookside in the 80s. It’s good to think that a book can change someone’s life.

The Tree Where Man Was Born, or Lucy, or Born on a Blue Day–too many! Sigh.

Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte taught me it was okay to be different and to think for myself. Read it when I was nine, have loved it ever since.
