At the weekend I set up this years reading challenge on Goodreads. I had to ask myself how many books did I think I could read in a year. Bearing in mind, work, family life, writing and of course, time spent here and other social networks!
Last year I set myself a challenge of 50 books. My ticker only shows 38 read books. I have a feeling that I may not have recorded every book I was reading, but I imagine, even with that, I have fallen short.
Is that stopping me setting the same target again this year? Absolutely not. I have a huge stack of books I want to read and the point in the word challenge, is it’s not a walk in the park. So 50 books it is. That’s less that one a week, which would seem doable, and it is. Some weeks I can read a couple of books. I already have. But others, I just find it harder and I get slower and it all goes to pot for a while. New Year, new motivation, longer lasting!
How many books are you planning on reading this year? And what’s at the top of that list? Click the below icon to join me in the Goodreads challenge.
2013 Reading Challenge
read 2 books toward her goal of 50 books.
Wish I had that kind of time. I think I could do two a month though.
I’m surprised you have time for any Alex!
Rebecca – I admire people like you who undertake these challenges; I really do. I hope you’ll post reviews as you go through the year.
Thanks Margot. You will probably see a few Recently Read posts popping up 🙂
At the rate I’m reading at the moment, it’s more like 1 a month, not 1 a week 🙁
Like I say Annalisa, I go through periods like that, they balance out the good months.
Good on you, Rebecca. I haven’t ever taken on this kind of challenge, but will perhaps ‘shadow’ you and see how close I get to 50 this year (have only just started recording all the crime novels I read). How many do you think you’ll review out of the 50? I’m often in awe of how many reviews and posts bloggers are able to produce (the lovely Margot being a case in point!). I just about manage my one a week before being sucked into the vortex that is the rest of life.
All the very best with hitting your target of 50 🙂
Thanks Mrs P.
Margot is something akin to a superhuman in my eyes. I don’t know how she does it!
Of the books I particularly enjoy, I shall share on the blog. I look forward to seeing if we can do it 🙂
Good for you Rebecca. I’m not good with challenges like this – life has a habit of getting in the way – but I do aim to read more books out of genre this year, perhaps every other one. We’ll see;)
It’s the out of genre but I find difficult to stick to. I still find myself drifting to crime. The problem is, with writing it, I’m trying to read more English crime fiction as well as the American, so I understand the genre I’m writing in. I suppose 50 books gives me enough space to do all that! That is if that life thing doesn’t get in the way.
I’ve just joined the challenge….my aim, 52 books but I’m already a week behind! Lol
Xx
I’m glad you’ve joined. And if I know your determination Vikki, you’ll soon catch up!!
Lol, I dunno about that! 😉
Xx
Oh yeah I definitely should join this challenge. Knew about it too late in 2012. Now… to decide on the magic number…
That’s great, I hope to see you over there!
