Don’t Make a Sound by David Jackson
You can’t choose your family. Or can you?
Meet the Bensons. They’re an ordinary couple. They wash their car, mow their lawn and pass the time of day with their neighbours. And they have a beautiful little girl called Daisy.
There’s just one problem.
SHE’S NOT THEIRS.
D. S. Nathan Cody is about to face his darkest and most terrifying case yet . . .
My Thoughts;
I don’t usually do reviews of crime novels on the blog anymore. Not with the fact that I write crime, it doesn’t feel right. I don’t want to be a reviewer. But I do still read. A lot. And I do sometimes talk about books on here that I have enjoyed, but try to make sure they are genres other than crime. This time I had no choice, I have to shout about this book. Readers, crime lovers, need to be aware of this book.
Don’t make a Sound is not available until 3rd May, but you can pre-order it and I’d recommend that you do.
Disclosure… Dave is a friend. But, I have a lot of friends in the crime world, friends who write great books. There’s just something about this book, about Dave’s writing that I love.
Daisy’s chapters, the ones written in the voice of a young girl who is not the child of the Benson’s, well, they are beautiful and heart wrenching at the same time. You wouldn’t believe an adult male had written them. The smallest things make your heart cry out. Dave has a light touch that feels like a sledgehammer. It takes your breath away. The tension is held throughout the book like a tightrope walkers wire. And one false step feels like you will come tumbling down.
I adore Dave’s writing. I think I need to tap him up for lessons, to be honest. And you should hit your regular book haunt and pre-order this book because it will make your reading year.
It’s about time David Jackson was a big selling name that we were all queuing to see at festivals.

Oh heck this looks like I seriously need to read this one…..although not when I’m alone. Maybe in daylight because chapters in the voice of a little girl could easily make me feel haunted…..

Very glad you enjoyed this as well as you did, Rebecca. It certainly sounds compelling! And I know just what you mean about not reviewing crime fiction, since you write it…

Wow! Your review paints this title as seriously good. I guess I’ll just have to add it to my TBR now…
