I’m pleased to welcome Claire Brizzle to the blog today.
BrizzleLass is known in the real world as Claire. She always has a book close at hand and devours Fantasy and Romance like some devour chocolate! Possibly an unusual combination of genres, Claire loves a happily ever after followed by lots of sword-fighting and dragons! She’s also passionate about music, was a classically trained musician as a youngster and is now a huge heavy metal fan who can also be found at a fair few classical concerts just to confuse people!
- What’s the first book you remember reading?
Not sure if I actually read this, but it was definitely read to me, several times every single day for a few years! It was Penelope Strawberry by Jayne Fisher part of the Garden Gang collection of Early Learning books. I had the whole set but was obsessed with Penelope Strawberry, 35 years later and my Mum still knows every single word of that book by heart, poor love!
2. What book will always stay with you and why?
The Sword of Shannara by Terry Brooks, after being gifted The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings books for my 14th birthday I swiftly headed to the library to discover what else I could find in the Fantasy section and I checked out The Sword of Shannara. What I discovered between these pages enlightened me to what fantasy truly was and could be. I spent years going back and checking out subsequent books, discovering new authors and becoming a true fan of the genre. But that first book has never left me and I’m planning to re-reread it this year and refresh my memory.
3. One book you are looking forward to reading?
Darksoul by Anna Stephens, it’s not out until May but I am absolutely dying to read it. Godblind absolutely blew me away, Anna Stephens has such a vivid and brutal imagination and she portrays it perfectly in her writing.

I loved the Shannara series. I need to find time to watch the series on TV.

Skip the television series. Nothing like the book and full of angst and sex.

Claire, you rock! That would be the very book I would name that has stayed with me. I read it as a young teen and it opened up a world of fantasy for me.

You’ve chosen such interesting books! My husband read the entire Shannara series and liked it very much. And your others are fascinating choices, too. Thanks for sharing, both.
