This #weekendcoffeeshare is the brainchild of PartTimeMonster. We sit down every weekend and share our week. Feel free to join in.
If we were having coffee I’d tell you to get comfortable with whatever it was you were drinking, as you’d know by now there are a selection of beverages here as I’m not a coffee drinker, (and I’m still hoping I don’t get kicked out of the blog meme for this!) because it’s been one hell of a week so you might actually need two cups.
So what I’m going to do is start with the good news and end with the good news and cram the crap week right into the middle. Sound good to you?
Last week I felt honoured to be thought of by fellow blogging friend Eva at Lilicaspace for the Very Inspiring Blogger Award. I’m very appreciative of being thought of this way, so thank you, Eva. What inspires me?

So what was so bad about this week? Well last Friday night, and this is why I didn’t respond to comments or follow-up on everyone’s blogs on last weekends coffee share, so I apologise, but I will do that this weekend, luckily I’d scheduled the post just before my daughter came in from work, anyway, last Friday night, I took my eldest daughter to A&E when she came in and she was admitted to hospital.
It was a long week. She had a high temperature, her head hurt and has been hurting for the past month, but this was different, she couldn’t move it and it was going down her neck. She was immediately put on IV antibiotics, saline, and paracetamol. Her infection count was 86 and it is normal at 5 and in the blood at 100.
They did a lumbar puncture and a CT scan. Eventually, both came back clear and the doctors ended up saying it was a virus of some description. They let her come home on Wednesday. We were both exhausted. She’s now had lots of sleep in her own bed where it’s quiet and dark and is recovering a lot better. Things are starting to appear more normal. It’s taken its toll on my body now though as it realises that it had been forced to sit in a hospital chair for that length of time! Now it’s screaming out its complaint – but I’m coping. Like I said, things are going back to normal.
Now back to the good news. I promise we’re nearly done and you can put your cup down and move to the next refreshment spot. But I’d be remiss, not to tell you that my crime novel Shallow Waters is on a weekend promotion of 99p in the UK and $1.48 in the US on Amazon UK, Amazon US and Kobo. It is also on equivalent half price promotion in all other countries, so grab it while you can!
When the naked, battered body of an unidentified teenager is found dumped in an alleyway, post-mortem finds evidence of a harrowing series of events.
Another teenage death with the same MO pushes DI Hannah Robbins and her team in the Nottingham City division Major Crimes Unit, to their limits, and across county borders. In a race against the clock, they attempt to unpick a thick web of lies and deceit to uncover the truth behind the deaths.
But it doesn’t stop there. When catching a killer isn’t enough, just how far are the team willing to push themselves to save the next girl?

A tough week, Rebecca – but glad to hear your daughter’s home and improving.
Rebecca Bradley says
Thank you. She is recovering a lot better now she’s at home. She’ll be back to normal in no time. 🙂

Wow, glad your daughter is home and doing better. What a scare.
And I don’t drink coffee either. I think it’s disgusting.
Rebecca Bradley says
It was a scare Alex. She’s not normally ill. Luckily all is going back to normal now.
Margot Kinberg says
Oh, what a week you’ve had, Rebecca! So glad to hear that your daughter’s on the mend, though (and that ‘photo is lovely!). How scary it is when your child is that ill! I hope you’ll take the time you need to rest up and recover yourself. And about coffee? I may be a coffee addict, but I can promise you, you’ll never be kicked out of the group for not drinking it yourself. You’re too important a part of the group.
Rebecca Bradley says
Thank you Margot 🙂 and yes, isn’t that photo adorable! She didn’t look that healthy last week though. She is looking better but still tired looking. I’m hoping this weekend is enough to get her fit for work otherwise she’s going to have to get a sick note signed. I’m also exhausted now. Now it’s all over. So I’m in bed early with a book!
Sarah says
Thanks for the coffee! I’m glad to hear your daughter is doing better and is home now.
Rebecca Bradley says
You’re welcome. And thank you.
MarinaSofia says
It has been quite a week – hope things are calming down now. Wishing your daughter (and the whole family) the best.
Rebecca Bradley says
Thank you Marina. Things are more level now. By Monday it’ll be as though it never happened 🙂
Kay says
What a week your family has had! So sorry about your daughter and how wonderful to find something that will eventually go away. You guys must have been frantic. Her picture is very sweet and I’m so happy she is home to rest in her own bed. Take care of yourself and get some rest too. I know that when our kiddos are sick, moms are on alert all the time.
And thanks for telling about your book being on a good sale. I’m off to look for it!
Rebecca Bradley says
Thanks Kay!
And yes, it was a stressful time. It’s funny how we, and our bodies hold up while we need them to and then when it’s clear, we realise how hard it all was. I’m now in bed with a book! 🙂
Jacqui Murray says
I’m sending lots of positive thoughts to your daughter, that she will feel better. Sick children is worse than most anything.
Rebecca Bradley says
Thank you Jacqui. It was strange as she’s never usually so sick like that. My youngest – it’s kind of to be expected sometimes. But she’s never ill so it was worrying. Thank you for your positive thoughts. X
C J Alan says
Sending well wishes to your daughter.Hope this coming week is better for both of you.
Rebecca Bradley says
Thank you so much. It’s looking positive.
Diana says
Glad you joined us! Get well wishes to your daughter–I know how scary it can be when your child is sick. Little Jedi was a preemie who stayed in the hospital for 5 weeks when he was born.
Also, and on a totally different note, congrats on the blog award!
Rebecca Bradley says
Thank you Diana. I love the coffee share posts. I think they’re a great idea for catching up with everyone after a week of ‘normal’ blog posts.
Both my kids were preemies. It comes with having a connective tissue disorder. But after that, my eldest hasn’t really been sick so at 19 it was a bit of a shock. I hope your little one was ok after being preemie.
And thank you 🙂
Diana says
He’s done beautifully, luckily. I had severe preeclampsia when he was 32 weeks, and he had to be delivered via C-section, but we were lucky in that he only had to hang around and gain some weight, get a little more ready to be out in the world, before he left the hospital.
Rebecca Bradley says
I’m so glad to hear that. It’s a scary time. I’m glad he’s a healthy boy.
Robin Rivera says
I’m glad your daughter is feeling better. That must have been scary. I think you’re doing fantastic under the stress. I would be in bed recovering, not managing to write a coffee share post, or responding to comments. : ) I hope you both have a restful weekend.
Rebecca Bradley says
Thanks Robin. I have to admit to having a very lazy Saturday. And I’m already in bed with my electric blanket on and a book in my hands 🙂
lilicasplace says
I’m sorry that your daughter was ill, Rebecca but glad she’s doing better now. Thanks so much for accepting and acknowledging the award in your post. You just put a smile on my face. Good to know that you’re resting and relaxing too. You certainly can’t be overdoing it either.
What book is the book club reading for January? One of these days I’ll get the time difference right and make it. 🙁 Hugs to you always. Eva
Rebecca Bradley says
Of course I accepted the award. I was honoured 🙂
The book club is reading The Chalk Circle Man by Fred Vargas. It would be lovely to meet you there one month 🙂
Corina says
I’m happy that your daughter is doing better and that your body is also recuperating from that hospital chair! Thank you for the tip on the book sale. I went over to amazon and grabbed it and have added it to my books to read list.
Rebecca Bradley says
Thank you. Both for your kind thoughts and for grabbing a copy of Shallow Waters!
